The "County" is a little piece of heaven tucked away along the shores of Lake Ontario, only minutes south of the 401 midway between Toronto and Montreal. It has a unique island character with 800 km. of spectacular coastline from sandy beaches to flat rock. Charming towns, villages and hamlets keeps visitors coming back all year round.

Wineries.... Prince Edward County is gaining a solid reputation as the new wine region of Ontario with new wineries opening up every year. Since 1999 well over 500 acres of vines have been established in the diverse limestone soils. Our wineries showcase locally grown wines that already demonstrate our unique regional characteristics.

The Wineries...

History.... The area was settled over 200 years ago by United Empire Loyalists pioneers and the unmistakable Loyalist architecture is reflected in many fine homes and Bed and Breakfasts. Discover the Amazing Loyalist County Adventure held in September and tour the many homes, farms and find out about our rich heritage.

Beaches and fun.... Sandbanks Provincial Park is a very popular recreation spot attracting campers and day visitors by the thousands! There are 3 sandy beaches - Outlet Beach, Sandbank Beach and the amazing Dunes Beach. They are among the largest and most beautiful beaches in Ontario with golden sand and sparkling water. Along with Wellington Beach and North Beach Provincial Park, there are countless opportunities for swimming, having a picnic, hiking, fishing, cycling, boating, bird watching and photography. During the winter months, Sandbanks is also a great place to go cross country skiing.

Artists.... Prince Edward County is a mecca for artists. There are many local artisan shops, antique and craft stores, glasswork studios, painters' galleries, pottery places and sculptors' exhibits. Join us for the Artists' Studio Tour held every year in the fall.

Fine Dining...

Food and dining.... From vegetable farms and orchards to vineyards and dairy farms, Prince Edward County offers a rural feast for all visitors. There are many roadside stands loaded with fresh corn, organic potatoes and many different vegetables and apples. "Taste! A Celebration of Regional Cuisine" takes place in October where you can enjoy the bounty of the harvest. Award winning cheese has been produced since 1901 by the historic Black River Cheese Company, a well known factory that also serves wonderful ice cream. And you will have an unlimited choice of fine restaurants to choose from that serve local produce, cheese and meat from our many farms and organic growers.

Theatre.... The Regent Theatre in downtown Picton features live shows, first run movies and cinefest. Dating back to 1830, The Regent opened as a theatre in 1922 and is one of the few remaining vaudeville movie houses in Canada. For nostalgia buffs, we still have a local drive in!

The AAPEC is here to help you plan a wonderful island adventure. Prince Edward County is a 4 season destination that offers something for everyone. Our association has over 30 quaint and charming Bed and Breakfasts and Inns to choose from - some that welcome children and invite you to bring along your dog, to adult getaways that offer spa services and outdoor hot tubs, and others that feature the art of local artisans. Please check out our Chamber of Tourism and Commerce website for accommodation availability - www.pecchamber.com or call 1-800-640-4717.
