The St Lawrence Corridor in Eastern Ontario allows easy access to visitors from Ontario, Quebec and New York State with Ottawa and Montreal within easy reach. Eastern Ontario within the St Lawrence Corridor provides a stunning backdrop to small villages, rolling farmland and popular tourist attractions. The region offers exceptional leisure activities and unique historical attractions that are second to none. Enjoy some great cultural events with winter theatre, living museums, antiquing and great shopping and wonderful dining in combination with seasonal activities make for a memorable overnight stay at one of the many bed & breakfasts in the area; each with it’s own unique cachet and setting. Come; enjoy Eastern Ontario’s many offerings. In 1958, whole towns were relocated and families uprooted so that the St Lawrence River could be flooded to create Lake St. Lawrence, part of the St. Lawrence Seaway. Two South Dundas villages affected by the flooding were Iroquois and Morrisburg. Their history, before and after, is depicted on 17 beautifully painted murals scattered throughout the Township and beyond. Ocean liners from across the world can be observed passing through at the Iroquois Lock and continue sailing the Seaway until well after Christmas. A contrast to observe is a ship seemingly passing through snow as it travels the St. Lawrence.
The Parks of the St. Lawrence operates Upper Canada Village, famous for its re-creation of pioneer life. Upper Canada Village’s Alight at Night festival has become a favorite holiday tradition for thousands of visitors each year. To wrap up its season the Playhouse offers a holiday family show, A Gift to Last, that runs from November 22 to December 16, 2007. Enjoy local performers with original songs.
