dot The Black Licorice Tree B&B by Sandbanks
My husband and I spent last weekend at Mark and Melanie's place. The experience was very pleasant. The room is very clean, the design is simple, elegant and convenient. The breakfast was absolutely delicious and well presented, the service is like high-end restaurants. Mark and Melanie are wonderful hosts, interesting to talk with, we felt like visiting friends. We would love to stay at their place again if we visit that area again. Highly recommended :-)

It was a delightful to visit The Black Licorice Treat in December 2018. The serenity of Prince Edward County and the comfort of the beautiful heritage house made for a blissful rest with friends before the Christmas rush. The delectable breakfasts and warm hospitality of our host, Mark, was a special treat. It was snowing but we were warm and cosy in the splendid house which was inviting and comfy. Thanks for a wonderful visit!

The Black Licorice B&B is a gem. Mark & Melanie are wonderful and gracious hosts plus Mark is quite an amazing chef. His breakfasts are spectacular and he easily catered to my gluten & dairy sensitivity. The rooms are very clean, cozy & tastefully decorated with comfortable beds. The B&B is also located a short distance from Sandbanks Provincial park and is surrounded by beautiful biking trails. Sandbanks is a short 15 to 20 minute bike ride from the B&B. The B&B is also within a 15 minute drive from Picton and it's quaint shops & restaurants. Overall we had a lovely and relaxing 2 night stay at the Black Licorice.

A wonderful B&B a short drive to both Sandbanks and Wellington in Prince Edward County. The owner was extremely welcoming and provided a hospitable stay. Great breakfasts, too!

We spent a fantastic weekend, thank you Mark & Melanie! Breakfast is wonderful which is not always the case in a B&B. And served in a place with good taste and views to the lake. We got enthusiastic tips for getting around, and felt at home. Don't miss the pottery studio!

I can't say enough about how fabulous this B&B is. It was all we had hoped for and more. Mark and Melanie are super welcoming and great hosts and we loved meeting Lexi the resident Doxie. Such a cutie! The house is gorgeous and decorated eclectically with modern and antique mix of furnishings. Love the tree log pillows and sweeping staircase. The room we had, The Lakeside room, was so pretty and fresh. Comfortable and stylish, this room also featured beautiful hardwood floors, modern bathroom and a great peek a boo lake view. My husband and i celebrated our anniversary on the enclosed porch late in the evening with some local wine we bought from a winery we visited. Nice to have a bookcase in the living room to borrow (a great selection). We were very happy with the impressive and delicious breakfast Mark prepared. Eggs with local cheese and bread, fresh squeezed juice and great java served in Melanie's beautiful pottery mugs. Even our key ring to the house had a piece of her pottery. If i ever come back to PEIC i will definitely return. I'm sure i missed something great to add but i think that's more than enough to tell you how great our stay was. Thank you so much Mark, Melanie and Lexi!! Hope to see you again someday.

A beautiful old home in an incredibly pictureque location with every comfort! Breakfast on the front porch was top notch. Mark and Melanie have plenty of local knowledge and helped us plan a fabulous bike trip. We biked all around the area and enjoyed happy hour on the lovely grounds overlooking the water afterward. Melanie's pottery is stylishly understated, like the decor. It was July when we visited, but so memorable! What a find!

I could not express enough how highly I recommend a stay at The Black Licorice Tree B&B. What a beautiful home with great charm. Location is PERFECT. There is a nice lake view which makes a morning out on the porch while devouring a fresh home-made breakfast and warm coffee that much more enjoyable. Mark's French toast is definitely a winner, but the egg, veg and cheese omelette was just as yummy! I couldn’t tell you which I loved more as they were both delicious 5-star meals!

Melanie and Mark make you feel at home. They are a lovely couple and very warm and welcoming. The rooms are impeccable, comfortable and private. They are very knowledgeable of the PEC area and offer great suggestions for things to do.

I definitely recommend requesting a tour of Melanie’s studio… she makes amazing ceramics that you’ll definitely fall in love with.

I can’t wait to book our next stay at The Black Licorice Tree. I wouldn’t want to go anywhere else!

Thanks Melanie and Mark, you two were wonderful and glad we got to meet you and spend the weekend at your place!

I've stayed in many B&B's all over North America and without exaggeration, my 3 night stay at the Black Licorice Tree was exceptional!

Mark and Melanie are a warm, friendly and welcoming couple (Melanie's laugh is very infectious) that gave me a much needed break from a stressful life. They are very knowledgeable of the PEC area, the house is gorgeous, very comfortable and definitely a good value for the rate.

And the breakfasts... wow! It would be a hard decision to decide which breakfast was more delicious, but the French toast is the winner!

I enjoyed the stay so much that for the first time ever, I booked a return visit before leaving!

My only regret is that I forgot to see Melanie's on site studio before leaving! Good thing I'm coming back next month!

We (two middle aged couples) travelled for over three weeks in Ontario and Québec and stayed in many B&B places. This is a great place to stay! The owners, a young couple - are extremely nice, helpful and at the same time very discrete. The house is beautifully kept, living space absolutely great, the rooms lovely and very clean ! The French toast in the morning is delightful and the coffee is - for European standards - good.

Our experience of this lovely B&B was perfect! The house was beautiful, and the rooms were tastefully and thoughtfully appointed. The breakfast was amazing, and the hosts were delightful. The setting was gorgeous, and very convenient to Sandbanks Provincial Park. It exceeded our expectations in every particular.

We had a great time on our visit to Prince Edward County and were warmly welcomed at the Black Licorice Tree. The rooms were very comfy, the breakfast delicious and we enjoyed seeing the pottery studio and meeting Mark and Melanie who are excellent hosts. Well recommended to visit!

A group of 7 women set off on a mini holiday to have a break from the stress of every day life. We could never have imagined the wonderful time that was ahead of us.

Melanie and Mark were so accommodating in every way you could possibly imagine. They gave us all kinds of suggestions as to things that we could do during our visit and were excellent at telling us how to get there for those of us who are geographically challenged.

The rooms are not only beautiful but immaculately clean with a washroom in each. They even had a mini fridge on the 2nd floor where we could store our snacks and wine for the weekend. The breakfasts were comparable to a high end restaurant ( esp the French toast) and they even made sure we had lots of coffee when we first got up in the morning for our group of 7 crazed caffeine addicts.

We all sat around for hours in our PJ's enjoying the house and the grounds and then when we felt like it, got ready and left for shopping, picnics and beach adventures ( Sandbanks is just minutes away) All of which are within a short distance away and equally as fun.

The evenings were filled with playing games, talking and just enjoying our time together and all because Melanie and Mark just made it all feel so comfortable for us.

And as an added treat Melanie makes incredible pottery and after coaxing her she gave us a tour of her studio.

But the best of all were the magnificent show of stars at night which was just a sight to behold for all of us city girls....have never seen anything like it in our lives.

Thanks Melanie and Mark for everything!! So we all left, having made memories and feeling renewed and ready to tackle the world again.....knowing that the Black Licorice Tree will be a high recommendation on all of our lists.

A group of friends and I had the pleasure of staying at the black licorice tree B&B for the long weekend. We booked all of the rooms in the house, and it literally felt like a home away from home.

From the onset, Mark and Melanie were amazing hosts! We have been to B&B in Ontario, and also around the world, and the level of service and attention to detail at the black licorice B&B is second to none.

From the beginning, Mark and Melanie could not have been more accommodating. Mark arranged for a portion of our party to go out fishing with him. Mark's a seasoned fisherman and arranged everything, from the canoes, to the fishing lures, and also the fishing nets. He shared tips of where to fish and showed us his fishing holes. With his expert guidance, the party actually caught some fish! Melanie was also very inviting! She's an artist and was kind enough to show us her studio and her pieces of art! She's very talented and handcrafts each and every one of her pieces! We drank from cups and used bowls that she personally made herself.

Oh and by the way, Mark makes the BEST French toast that we've ever had in our life! We've had a lot of breakfasts at B&Bs but this one takes the prize! Light and airy, covered in a tasteful compote of various berries, with heated maple syrup on the side with powdered sugar! To die for!

To anyone thinking about booking with Mark and Melanie at the Black Licorice B&B, Just DO IT!!!! You will NOT regret it! It was one of the greatest service experience at a B&B that we've had to date, and hope that you have the pleasure of experiencing what Mark and Melanie have the gift to share.

THANKS Mark and Melanie for the great memories! We've found our mainstay of R&R in Prince Edward County!
