dot The William Wakeham House
This May we had the pleasure of welcoming family from away in order to attending my daughter's baptism. Once again Maison William Wakeham, with Desmond and his staff, was at the top of the "places to stay while you're here" list.

Mr Ogden was gracious in accepting the reservation, flexible in it's relative last minute date changes and personally ensured that my family were met upon arrival. We had the pleasure of sharing breakfast with my family, again a relatively last minute change which was accommodated with a smile and a "Not a problem, sir." The food and service were both, as on our previous honeymoon stay, top-notch.

This Inn remains my first choice for out of town guests, and my own "stay-cations"

A stay at the Maison William Wakeham in Gaspé is like coming home. The elegant old inn is comfortable, the staff welcoming, the food first class. Local seafood and the inn's signature short ribs of beef were beautifully served, with good wines to match. It's a "must-stop" location midway between Forillon Park and Percé. My husband and I spent 2 nights at the William Wakeham house in July. The food Desmond serves in his restaurant in the inn is very, very special...the best we had during our 2 weeks in the Gaspesie. The duck was the best my husband ever had, I loved my fish, and, really, we loved everything we had to eat! The desserts are incredible(try the cheesecake). Warning: the food portions are big! Our room was nice too, but the food was unforgetable!

'The restaurant in the historic 1860's William Wakeham Inn, has long been a culinary fixture overlooking the York River and the Gaspé Bay. Innkeeper and chef Desmond Ogden offers traditional and contemporary regional cuisine in their heritage Victorian style dining room''. ''Although fresh caught seafood is available year round on the Quebec Maritime coastline, it is especially special during the holiday season. La Maison William Wakeham Restaurant in Gaspé is an outstanding restaurant featuring the freshest of regional seafood.''

Excerpt from the Vancouver Sun Travel Guide

The highlight of Gaspé was dinner at La Maison William Wakeham, a Victorian fancy begun in the 1850s and completed in 1880. Dinner, of fresh fish and game and other local ingredients, was delicious, but the highlight was a tour of the house itself, which is now an auberge, or inn. If I ever go back to Gaspé I'll be spending the night in the octagonal Queen's Room, an enormous wooden yurt-shaped space filled with Victoriana which was a former music room -- and now looks like a honeymoon suite for a Mongol prince and his prim British bride.
