Edition 41: December 8, 2003

In the 41st issue of the Bed and Breakfast Traveller, we take you to Muskoka , Ontario, where a dazzling variety of winter getaway packages awaits you just ninety minutes north of the intersection of Highways 400 and 401.

If you thought it was breathtaking in summer, Muskoka is even more Magic in winter. Sun-sparkling snow on white pines, granite cliffs, and a thousand frozen lakes ... air turned to chilled white wine ... night stars on high.

But is there much to do there in winter if you don't ski, snowshoe, or sled? Well, you could get "crafty" (quilting, watercolour, feltmaking, pottery, soapstone carving); be a gourmet (cooking seminars, wine-tasting); get into games (murder mystery, canasta); rejuvenate (wellness groups, self-care retreats); learn (wolf walk, gardening sessions, dialogue with an author); be romantic (spas, snuggle by fires, jacuzzi, dine by candlelight, hot tub,); or .….. just relax, dine, read, chat, dine some more.

Members of the Muskoka B&B Association are offering special packages for winter. The group has set up 38 different packages at 18 unique and interesting B&Bs. Travelers who appreciate the personal touch and extra attention that are found in a Bed and Breakfast will love the energy and creativity that your hosts put into these themed getaways. Less busy in the winter, they have time to offer more than just a visit, but also provide special activities, interactions, and fun. Many of the packages offer a delightful dinner as well as the usual creative and generous breakfasts.

Of course, your appetites for all that great food will be heartier if you at least dabble in the fabulous outdoor experiences that a Muskoka winter provides. Once primarily a summer destination, Muskoka offers four seasons of beauty, wildlife, and entertainment. Cross-country ski, snowshoe, toboggan, snowmobile, drive around and sightsee, browse the antique stores, galleries, and shops.

Packages are designed as one and two-day escapes, weekend or midweek; everyone should be able to find something to tickle their fancy in the wide variety of Muskoka B&B getaways. Check out the full menu of relaxing and welcoming formats your hosts are offering on http://www.bbmuskoka.com/packages

Check back frequently, as packages are added as they become available.
